Daniel Dean "Sonny" White, Jr.

Daniel "Sonny" Dean White, Jr., 82, of Gary, Indiana, passed away at home peacefully on February 21, 2024. Sonny was born on January 25, 1942, to Daniel White, Sr. and Bessie P. (Wachowiak) White in Gary, Indiana. Sonny graduated from Tolleston High School in 1960. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army, where he served from 1961-1963 in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army he started his career at the former Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana. Sonny worked in the 80- inch hot plate for 37 years.

After retiring, Sonny enjoyed spending time traveling with friends. He enjoyed watching sports particularly baseball and football. He enjoyed going to the Indy 500. He loved visiting and going fishing in Tennessee with friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Green Top Tap. Sonny will always be remembered as being kind, loving, supportive and caring. Sonny would help anybody in need. He proved that many times to his family and friends.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel White, Sr., and Bessie P. (Wachowiak) White: nephew, Jerry Lynn Boehning; great- niece, Ashley (Krantz) Titus.

Sonny is survived by his sisters, Carol Lou Russell of Paducah Kentucky, Barbara (Doug) Mann of Hobart, Indiana, and Sharon White of Gary, Indiana; nieces and nephews; Rachelle (Ventura) West of Paducah, Kentucky, Richard (Sandy) Russell of Melbourne, Florida, Christopher Russell of Paducah, Kentucky, Colleen (Robert) Krantz of Valparaiso, Indiana,  Joseph (Tracey) Cruz, Jr. of Crown Point, Indiana, and Shakia (Clayton) Torres of Portage, Indiana and numerous loving great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Sonny was a very loving brother, uncle, and friend. He will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. Sonny's family would also like to give a special thank you to extended family members, friends and VNA Hospice of NWI for all the love and support during such a difficult time.

Visitation Monday, February 26, 2024, 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with Funeral Services Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Both services held from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery 4401 West Ridge Road immediately following services with Military Honors.
