Elizabeth (Porter) Myrick

Elizabeth Myrick was born September 8, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois to Alvin and Elizabeth Porter. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age.  She was a devoted wife to Lamar C. Myrick, Sr., whom she wed May 27, 1948, until his death. To this union four children were born.

As an adult she was employed as a matron at Washington Elementary School in Gary, Indiana, for over 40 years.

Elizabeth departed this life Friday, January 26, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar C. Myrick, Sr.; parents, Alvin and Elizabeth Porter; three sisters, Thelma (Ronald) Humphrey, Alveretta (Charles) Payne, and Harriet (Kenneth) Dogan; brother-in-law, Nate Johnson; and 2 sons-in-law, William Allen, Sr., and Henry Bell.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three beloved daughters, Loretta Lee, Sheila Allen, and Marlena Bell; loving son, Lamar C. (Mabel) Myrick, Jr.; two sisters, Cora Harris; and Delores Johnson; two sisters-in-law; Bernice Willis, and Delores Rogers; twelve grandchildren, Danya (Kirt) Olive, William, Jr., Tashema (Tellis), Cliffton, Sr., Dwyane, Lamar, III, Lewis, Shemia, Candice, Laura, Desmond, and Bryane (Latasha); twenty-nine great grandchildren; Angela, Dwight, Jacquese, Cliffton, Jr., William, III, Ajay, Keshawn, Telise, Tameea, Tellis, Jr., Laurence, Lewis, Jr., Adhmar, Katiana, Curtis, Gia, Landon, Makaya, Miyana, Doriana, Jaciana, Maleah, Lailah, Kingston, Prince, Cameron, Caden, Nya, and Labrillya; Ten great-great grandchildren; Aleena, Tiera, Trinity, Demi, Yomi, Sayle, Sir, Jamiyrah, Jeremiah, and Jamari; great-great-great grandchild, Deliyah; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Visitation Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Homegoing Service 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park 3815 West 39th Avenue Hobart, Indiana 46342.
