Helen Goldman Obituary

Helen Caldwell Goldman, the esteemed matriarch of our family, exemplified extraordinary strength and talent. Born alongside her twin brother, Herman Caldwell in Lexington, Mississippi, to parents, Mattie Hicks Caldwell and Clovis Caldwell, she embarked on a journey that would shape her legacy.

In 1940, seeking better opportunities, the family relocated to Gary, Indiana, where Clovis eventually retired from his job at the United States Steel Mill. Residing in Gary for over eight decades. Helen received her education from the Gary Public School System, attending Carver Elementary School and later Roosevelt High School. On May 8, 1952, she married R.C. Goldman and moved to East Chicago to embrace her role as a devoted wife and mother to their five children: Ricky, Gary, Ralph, James, and Laverne Goldman.

Gifted with a needle and thread from a young age, Helen honed her skills as a seamstress, transforming fabric into exquisite pieces of artistry. Establishing her own business, "Helen's Fabrics and Creations", her designs transcended mere garments, embodying her creativity and dedication. Whether crafting intricate patterns or fashioning elegant attire, her expertise and passion shone through every stitch. Throughout her career, Helen tailored elegant garments for esteemed clients until her retirement. Additionally, she showcased her culinary prowess, orchestrating numerous gatherings during holidays, and fostering cherished moments of togetherness.

Helen's affinity for gardening mirrored her nurturing spirit, as she delighted in witnessing the flourishing of her flowers, fruits, and vegetables. She generously shared her fruits of her labor during family gatherings, embodying her selflessness and love. Beyond her talents, Helen epitomized timeless elegance and grace, leaving an indelible mark on her family and all who crossed her path. Her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering resilience provided solace during adversity and joy during celebrations. Though she has departed from this world, her legacy of class, love, selflessness, and creativity will endure inspiring generations to come. While her physical presence may be absent, her spirit lives on through cherished memories held in our hearts.

Helen is now in the arms of our Lord, with her parents, Mattie and Clovis; her husband, R.C. Goldman; her daughter, Laverne Goldman; her son, James Goldman; her brothers, Joe (Snook) Caldwell, Lafayette Caldwell, and Herman Caldwell; sisters, Camilla Trice and Shirley Delk.
