David Grace

David Grace Obituary

David Lee Eugene Grace was the second oldest Son born to Pearl Mays-Grace and Richard Lee Grace, Sr. on June 5, 1945 at Saint Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, Indiana. The Grace Family relocated to Gary, Indiana in the 1950’s. David attended Benjamin O. Banneker; Tolleston and graduated from Ralph Waldo Emerson Senior High School. David furthered his studies by attending night studies at Indiana Vocational Technical College and embarked upon his military career by joining the United States Army in October of 1968. Stationed in Kentucky, Oklahoma, Missouri, North Carolina, Asia and Hawaii until he was honorably discharged in November 1970. During his time in the service David did a tour in Vietnam, as a decorated infantry officer he served with honor and pride for his country from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.  

 

David was blessed with many talents and skills as demonstrated through his various occupations as a(n): Steel Worker, Sandblaster, Craftsman, machinist, Millwright, Boilermaker and Abatement Technician he faithfully completed each duty with an unyielding commitment to excellence. David’s passion for living was reflective in his flair for traveling, “Oldies but Goodies” soul music, jazz, dancing, bowling, soft-ball, Northwest Indiana Food Bank Volunteer, Sojourner Truth House Volunteer, Senior Advisor for Elevated Mindz Incorporated Youth Empowerment Organization, dedicated member of the “McDonalds Breakfast Club”, USA Veterans “Walk-a-Thons”, Church Missions and Security.

 

David’s cunning sense of humor earned many comical nicknames, such as: Dave, Daddy-D, Pop, Grandpa Dave, Davide’, Captain Dee, “Ole Man”, “Dawg”. David had many quotes and quips that filled everyone with moments of merriment and laughter.

 

David leaves to cherish his memory his eternally grateful Wife: Mildred Carolyn Lewis-Grace. David was a devoted and dedicated Father “Daddy” to: Tamiko LaToya Grace, David (Irma) Eugene Grace, Gregory (LaTina) Bertrand Lewis, Eunice W. Hart, LaTrice G. Davis and Willie Grace. Grandfather of: Ahsia, Anthony, Howard Jr., Davion, Javonte, Deajanae, Mileek, Mahqueese, Ciera and Kevon; Nicole, Christopher Matthews, Danny, Willie Jr., Willie James, Ashley and Christopher Grace. Joyful and energetic Great Grandchildren: LaTreal, LaNiyah, Jersey Violet and Hope.

 

Beloved sisters: Nectar Louise (Theresa) Harvey and Dalene Richardson. Awesome brothers: Richard L. Grayson, Dennis Hill, Eddie Hill, Darrel (Toni) Hill, Calvin Hill, Kevin (Ruth) Hill, Leroy (Tracy) Summerhill, Rev. Norwood (Beverly) Hills, Cecil (Myra) Akins. Godmother: Geraldine F. Thomas, caring God sisters: Sonja Y. (Larry) Evans, Jacqueline C. Haggard, Ernestine Miles, Mary A. Peterson. God brothers: Louis Fletcher and Jessie Haggard. Brother-in-law: Elder Melvin (Faye) L. Gregory. Sister-in-law: Cynthia Hills. Special Goddaughters: Yvonne and Yvette Bourgeois, LaTanya Cross and Nicole Tooze. Outstanding and caring Godsons: Edward (Margie) E. Banks, William F. Brown, Elgis Streeter, Jai-Kevin Thomas. Talented nephews and nieces, great-nieces and nephews. Infinite number of attentive and unforgettable cousins, other relatives, co-workers, neighbors, Family Christian Center Brothers and Sisters, acquittances and life-long friends.
