Esperanza "Hopie" (Sandoval) Peterson of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. She was born to Jose and Mauricia Sandoval on June 28, 1947 in East Chicago, IN. Esperanza leaves behind five children; Charles III, Consuella, Joseph, Aristotle (Michelle) and Christopher; sisters and brothers; Irene (late Joseph) Contreras, Mary (Frank) Vasquez, Louis (Lillian) Sandoval, Josephine (Cipriano) Rodriguez, Juanita Sandoval, Francisca (Thomas) Aguilera, Margaret Warner, Isidra (Steven) Martinez and Anthony Lopez; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members. Hopie was a loving grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jose and Mauricia Sandoval; son, Tyler Peterson and nephew, Aaron Alfaro. Birthdays, cookouts and game nights with family was always a joy to Hopie, but, the time she spent with her grandchildren was most special to her. Hopie never asked for anything but, a little of your time which never failed to put a smile on her face. Recalling good times of relatives and friends of years passed; brought much laughter to her soul and sometimes even tears. One of Hopie's favorite quotes was, "Put it in God's hands, He'll take care of it." Well, Hopie is in God's hands now and we know, "He will take care of her." Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN (219) 980-5555. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Main Chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Hopie will be dearly missed by her loving, devoted family and precious friends. God Grant Her Eternal Rest.
