Addie Adams Obituary

Addie Adams lived a full life and was called home May 29, 2020, at the age of 96 years old.  Addie Louise Chinn was an only child born March 18, 1924, in Owensboro, Kentucky.  Growing up Addie learned her cooking and business skills from her mom Elizabeth and grandmother "Big Addie."  While attending Owensboro High School she was an honor roll student and crowned a football Homecoming Queen.  Her educational interests caused her to become a stickler for English and proper grammar.  When Addie and Neal Sr. met, it was love at first sight.  The two were married and moved to Gary, IN.  Addie Adams was a very caring, loving, responsible wife, mother, and grandmother.  Many may have known her as "The Kid" a natural comedian, with a sense of humor and a contagious smile.  Her laughter was reflection of her loving and caring heart, that she was always willing to share.  She had a such a vibrant personality, that engaged in such critical thinking, that she was able to connect with everyone.  Upon meeting her you would never forget her.  During her lifetime, Addie and Neal Sr. owned a restaurant on Broadway in Gary, IN. named "The Broadway Eat Shop."  From there Addie started working at the Bear Brand Stocking Factory in Gary.  Afterwards she began working at Beckman Jr High School as a cashier because her goals were to send her children off to school and beat them back home.  During her 30 year stay at Beckman, she made a lot of little friends that until this day, still call her, "Mom."  Then she went into business as the mentor and iconic "Mommi" of Mommi and Me Gourmet Candies in Merrillville, IN.  She was a devout Christian and was a member of St. Timothy Community Church in Gary, IN.  Throughout her journey through life, Addie, Mom, Grandmother and GiGi has influenced all of us by leading by example and of "not taking life so seriously and to always put laughter first".  She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth (Dee Grant) Chinn and William Barker; her husband, Cornelius V. Adams, Sr.; grandson, John B. Davis, Jr.; and son-in-law, Jerry C. Moore.  Her beautiful life will be cherished in the lives of her children, Anita L. Moore, Karen E. (John B. Sr.) Davis, Cornelius V. Jr. (Sandra) Adams; grandchildren, Deborah Atkinson, Karen A. Davis, Jamaal Davis, Janneil Adams, Cornelius V. III (Tesha) Adams, Lauren M. Adams, Zachariah (Michelle) Swetky, James R. Williams; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
