Anthony Torres, Sr., age 85, passed away early Sunday morning, October 11, 2020, a longtime resident of East Chicago, IN. and most recently Hobart, IN.  He was born to Anastasio Torres, Sr. and Caritina (Juarez) on July 24, 1935, in Marquette, Kansas.  He is preceded in death by his siblings, Felipe, Gregorio, Luciano, Vidal, and Anastacio Torres, Jr.  He graduated from Marquette High School and relocated to Indiana where he worked as a foreman for Inland Steel for 25 years before medically retiring.  He is survived by his devoted and loving children, Anthony (Yolanda) Torres, Jr.  Robert Sr. (preceded in death), Denise (Marvin) Jernigan, Edward (Rosie) Torres,  Michael, and Alexander (Denise) Torres.  He is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, as well as a host of several loving family members.  He and his former wife, Emily (Badajoza) Eckhart, lived together in Gary, Indiana where they raised their 6 children.  He filled their lives with memories of summer vacations to Marquette, KS, weekends at Shakey's Pizza , days at the park on the harbor lakefront and swimming at the local Marquette pool.  He was a proud Veteran of the United states Army as well as a Veteran of the Korean War.  He obtained the rank of Corporal as a light weapons infantryman.  He comes from a proud lineage of military service.  All 5 of his siblings served in the various branches of the United States Armed Services.  He was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan and Chicago White Sox fan.  His favorite time was spent with family.  He bonded over playing pool or cards with his children and grandchildren.  He was a huge fan of taking pictures for Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook with his children and grandchildren.  He was always camera ready.  He will be deeply missed by all who had the time to spend with him.  His humor, wit, and charm endeared him to all.  He loved telling jokes and always made everyone feel loved and like family.  Each of us will take a piece of him with us as he gave a piece of himself to each of us.  On behalf of the Torres family we would like to thank everyone for their sympathy and support.  A special thanks to his family from Kansas.
