Bernice Conway Singleton, affectionately known by her family as "Shang" was born on May 4, 1929 and transitioned to her heavenly home on June 25, 2020, surrounded by her family. She ws the 3rd child born to Owens and Hattie Conway in Madison County, Camden, Mississippi. She moved from Mississippi to Gary, Indiana during her early years after graduation form high school and marriage to Quinton Singleton. To this union three children were born, Kendra (Eileen) Singleton Bates, Geneva (Niece) Singleton Potter and Bertha Jean (BJ) Singleton Amett. She was employed for many years in the healthcare field and after retirement, her only goal was to "rest". "Shang is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Quinton; parents, Owens and Hattie (Simpson) Conway; daughters, Bertha Jean and Geneva (niece); sisters, Gladys (Lee) Hutchins, Pearlean Spights and Alberta (Doll) Carson. She leaves to cherish her memory, her remaining daughter, Kendra; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Reginald, Tony, Ericka, Alena, and Trisha; three sisters, Addie Draper of Joilet, Illinois, Elsie Watkins of Canton, Mississippi, Ida Lee McMurtry of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and brother, Percy Calloway, also of Joliet, Illinois, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Due to Covid-19, services for Mrs. Singleton will be PRIVATE. May God bless the Singleton families.
