Bessie Mae (Law) Thomas

Bessie Mae (Law) Thomas was born January 2, 1947, in Pinehurst, Georgia to the late David and Willie Mae Law.  She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School class of 1965.  She married Clarence Daniel Thomas, Sr. on December 16, 1967, and raised 3 children in Gary, Indiana.

Bessie was the type of mom who believed in creating a wholesome and loving environment for her husband and children.  Our home was full of life, love, and laughter.  Many of our afterschool days were filled with fresh baked cookies or some kind of treats when we got home.  Dinner was always very creative and delicious.  Mom’s joy was her children and even some extra kids who loved getting advice from the beloved William A. Wirt Band Booster, a.k.a Ms. “Thomas.”  Remembering those hot days marching in the band and seeing mom marching alongside us brought joy to our hearts. She was also always in the “rowdy” section of our brother’s basketball and football games.

Bessie is preceded in death by her parents David and Willie Mae Law and great grand-son Brandon Daniel Thomas.  She is survived by her loving husband Clarence Daniel Thomas, Sr. children: Clarence (Jennifer) Thomas, Jr.,  Lisa (Dwight) Rodgers, Angelia (Eric, Sr.) Derico; grandchildren: Loreal Thomas, Johnny Perkins III, Eric Derico, Jr., (Mallory), Jasmine Derico, Jalen (Emily) Perkins, and Kiera Lee; great-grand-children: Aubry, Aiden, Jaraun, and Arielle; siblings, Cheryl (Pratus) Williams, Annette Law; adored nephews; Andre (Willis) Jones and Kevin Witcher: nieces; Cherelle Williams, Kieanna Morrow, Arnetta Henderson, and Aaliyah Henderson.

God has called our Angel home. Rest easy mom!

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 pm.  Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 p.m.  All services will be at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, Indiana 46408 - 219 980-5555

MASKS ARE REQUIRED AT THE FUNERAL HOME FOR THE VISITATION AND FUNERAL.
