Betty A. Evans

Betty Ann Evans, age 84, of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away on October 24, 2023. Betty Ann was born on October 5, 1939, to the late Lanella Cunegin in Gary, Indiana.

She graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in 1958. Betty was a member of the Hatcher Society when the late Mayor Richard G. Hatcher was in office.

 She married the love of her life, Larry Evans and they celebrated 42 years of marriage until his passing. She was a devoted wife and mother and had two wonderful and spiritual children, Donna and Raymond. 

Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping, spending time with the family and celebrating the birth of Christ on Christmas Day. She was an integral part of the Congregational Care Ministry of Christ Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana where she was a faithful and dedicated member. 

Betty is preceded in death by her wonderful husband, Larry Evans; brother, Carl Dennis Givens; grandson, Christopher Harrell; and sister-in-law, Bessie Thomas.

Betty is survived by her two children, Donna Nixon and Raymond Evans; brothers, Wade (Minell) Henderson, Danny Henderson, Chester (Beverly Duckett) Henderson, and Clarence (Bessie) Thomas, Sr.; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Homegoing Services at 11:00 a.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Larry Evans.

Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles: they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
