Charles Edward Johnson, Sr., age 75, was born on August 23, 1950, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Lewis Charles (L.C) and Flomer Johnson. He peacefully departed this life on June 10, 2026.
Charles accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana. He was a proud graduate of Froebel High School, Class of 1969. In October 1970, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he honorably served his country for two years until October 1972. Following his military service, he was employed with U.S. Steel as a truck driver.
Charles lived a life centered on family, love, and service. During his time in the Navy, he served as a chef, a role that reflected one of his greatest passions-cooking. He found joy in preparing meals for family and friends, and was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, especially during the holiday gatherings and family celebrations.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lewis Charles and Flomer Johnson; his sisters, Mildred L. Randolph and Shirley D. Johnson.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory: son, Charles E. Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Stella Brown, Carolyn Cooper, and Denise (James) Moore; granddaughter, Kayla Johnson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends at Linden House of Gary, Indiana whose lives were enriched by his presence.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the cherished memories we shared and the legacy of love, strength, and perseverance that Charles leaves behind. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude for the many expressions of love, prayers, kindness, and support shown during this difficult time.
