Charles Ruble Obituary

Our dear friend Charles Ruble- a.k.a. Charlie, Chuckie Boy, or simply "Partner" passed away on September 27, 2025. Born in East Chicago, Indiana, on October 25, 1949, Charlie told stories of a youth and young adulthood in Gary and the Harbor.

Depending on the day, Charlie said he worked as a car mechanic, at a funeral home, and was a veteran of BOTH the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He boasted heroic service in every branch of the military-including the Navy SEALS ! Who were we to argue ? We loved every patriotic word. Truth is, Charlie worked plenty of odd jobs through the years, but it was at Nick's Liquors on Indianapolis Blvd. in Hammond, where he became a true local legend.

Chalie kept his daily life simple. He loved fishing, tinkering with tools, washing cars, mowing lawns, and-above all-eating good food. Biscuits and gravy. Pork chops. Chili dogs. If it was hearty and bad for you, he'll take two !

In his later years, Charlie resided at an assisted living facility in Crown Point. Even limited mobility didn't slow him down. The medical staff knew him for his daring breakouts, made known to all as the alarm they strapped to his wheelchair sounded. Seventy-five years old and still a little mischievous kid at heart.

Charlie was a man of faith. A devout Christian, he believed wholeheartedly in God, Jesus Christ, and his place in Heaven. He sang his heart out every Sunday with the Hessville Baptist Choir-never on key, but always with soul. If you were lucky enough to hear his interpretations of gospel favorites, you know the joy for the Lord he carried in his heart.

To honor our one-of-a-kind friend, a graveside burial service will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2025, 9:00 a.m.at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, Indiana Section A. Later that evening, in true Charlie fashion, we'll gather at House of Pizza in Hammond (4-7 p.m.) for pizza, drinks and more "Chuckie Boy" stories than can fit in one room. Both events are open to all who loved him.

So here's to Charlie- Chuckie Boy, Partner, our dear friend. Heaven is a little louder, funnier, and brighter now that he's there. Pow Pow, Sucker !
