Cora L. Brown was born to the late Charlie "Boss" Williams and the late Jessie Fields in Farmerville, Louisiana, on May 10, 1931. She was the youngest of eight children. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Farmerville, Louisiana.
Cora graduated from Farmerville High School in 1952. On July 27, 1953, she entered into holy matrimony with the late Louis Brown, Sr. and relocated to Hammond, Indiana. To this union four children were born; David, Verenice, Darrell and Louis Brown, Jr.
Cora united with Mount Zion MB Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. A.R. Burns, and now Rev. Dr. William R. Collins, Pastor-Teacher. Cora loved her church family and enjoyed singing in the choir until her health began to decline. She deeply loved her church family and was a faithful servant until her health issues started, but she would live stream church services from home. "I'm hopping, but I'm not stopping !" was her famous saying anytime someone would ask how she was doing.
Cora, the Matriarch of the family, loved her family and friends immensely. She enjoyed many outings with her family and friends, especially going to the casino when she had the opportunity ! Cora has had a few jobs, she worked at Goldblatts and Eggers Middle School in Hammond, Indiana, Goodwill in East Chicago, Indiana. She also attended Cosmetology School in Gary, Indiana and loved servicing hair clients for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie "Boss" Williams and Jessie Fields; her husband, Louis Brown, Sr., her son, David Brown; granddaughter, Shelisia Kelly; great-grandson, Koebe Clopton; five sisters, Pearl Lee Mayfield, Baltimore, Maryland, Revia Iverson, Shreveport, Louisiana, Lottie Mae Jones, Etta Moore, and Nettie Lee Jones, all of Farmerville, Louisiana; two brothers, George Kelley and Robert Lee Williams both of Farmerville, Louisiana.
Cora leaves to cherish her memories; her devoted daughter, Verenice (Larry) Clopton, Hammond, Indiana; two loving sons, Darrell and Louis Brown, Jr. of Hammond, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Donna Overton-Brown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three granddaughters, Nadia Clopton of Hammond, Indiana, Erica Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Shey Brown of Memphis, Tennessee; six grandsons, Larry (Angielique) Clopton, Jr. of Hammond, Indiana, Brandon (Stacy Tuccitto) Clopton of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Damon (Yolandria) Brown of Hammond, Indiana, Chase (Richelle) Brown of Dallas, Texas, David Rhone of College Park, Georgia, and Dexter Brown of Memphis, Tennessee; three great-grandsons, Kayden Short of Hammond, Indiana; Chase Brown, Jr. and Jayce Brown both of Dallas, Texas; six great-granddaughters, Lyrik Clopton and Heaven Clopton both of Hammond, Indiana, Ezaria Brown and Endia Brown both of Virgina Beach, Virginia, Lachasia Brown and Sarah Brown both of Dallas, Texas; great-great granddaughter, Khloe Williams-Clopton of Hammond, Indiana; devoted friend of many years, niece, Sharon Watley of Farmerville, Louisiana; Dorothy Alexander; loving caregiver, Dimitria Young and a host of family and dear friends.
Visitation Tuesday, July 2, 2024 ,10:00 a.m-11;00 a.m. with Homegoing Services 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. form Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment private.
