Cynthia Gibson Obituary

Cynthia Laverne Gibson was born September 22, 1958, in Leeds, Alabama.  She was called home on November 22, 2021.  She was the sixth child born to the union of Roosevelt and Laverne Gibson.  Shortly after her birth, her parents moved her to East Chicago, Indiana with her other siblings.  East Chicago, Indiana would be her home until the end of her life. Ms. Cynthia Gibson was baptized into Christ at an early age. On July 12, 1977, she and Dennis Perkins gave birth to Tasha Laverne Perkins.

She attended East Chicago Public Schools.  At the age of 19, she was hired in at Inland Steel, after the birth of her one and only child, Tasha Laverne Perkins.  She thought she won the lottery by working at Inland Steel.  The income in the mill helped take care of not only her one child, but her immediate family as well.

Some of the things she was able to accomplish as a single mother was to make sure that all of her daughter's immediate needs were taken care of.  In May of 1995, Ms. Cynthia devoted herself to making sure her daughter, Tasha Laverne Perkins had the dream dress for her senior prom, and she did !  Ms. Cynthia would spend over $1,000 for her daughter's prom dress, which was a wedding dress and  she financed it all by herself !  Also, with the help of scholarship programs she was able to make sure that her daughter had everything she needed to graduate from Indiana University in Bloomington in four years, which she did.  One of her greatest accomplishments was getting her home built in March of 2001.  In 2009, Ms. Cynthia was blessed to be able to retire from Arcelor Mittal with 31 years on the job.  Praise God for that !

She was preceded in death by her father, Roosevelt Gibson;  2 sister, Diane Lardydell and Francine Francis Gibson; brothers-in-law, Lonzell Lardydell and Willie King; and special nephew, Brandon D. Merriweather.

Cynthia leaves to cherish her memories: her beautiful, smart and remarkable mother, Laverne Gibson; daughter, Tasha Laverne Perkins; sisters, Patti Jo Gibson and Rosemary Gibson; brothers, Bernard, Roosevelt, Otto, and Timothy (Kimberly) Gibson; special nephews, Lonzell Gibson, Marcus (Rachaunn) Gibson, Otis Dontrell Watson, Eric Hall, Robert Gibson, and Josiah Gibson; special nieces, Tyra Laverne Gibson, Tanya Latoy Thomas, Jori Laverne (Reggie) Jackson, and Tierra Gibson; great-nephews, Lorenzo Hood and Zechariah McGregory; work friends, Geno alexander, Dorris Harvey, Annie Brooks, and Darryl "The Real Deal".

Cynthia was known to all as a beautiful, caring, giving, strong, outspoken, smart and funny woman.  She will be remembered by her daughter as the smartest woman she has ever known.  Ms. Cynthia was loved by many and will never be forgotten !  Rest in peace !
