David Smith Obituary

David Joe Smith, age 55, died suddenly on October 6, 2021.  David was born on December 16, 1965, in Manchester, Tennessee.  David moved to Indiana with his parents and resided here until his passing.

He was employed by the Hammond Water Department . He was a member of the American Veteran's Motorcycle Club, he loved to ride his motorcycle.  He was the godfather of several family members.  David enjoyed life to the fullest.

David was the son of Walter Lee Smith and Nellie Jo (Burt) Smith Carlson.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Elizabeth (Lisa) Martinez Smith; stepsons, Ryan Anthony Motkowski and Todd Scott Doland; mother, Nellie Jo Carlson;  stepmother, Rose Smith,  2 brothers, Richard (Lissa) Smith and Gary Ottomanelli and many other stepbrothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. David is preceded in death by his father, Walter Lee Smith; brother, Darryll Smith; stepfather, David Carlson; father-in-law, Raul Martinez, Jr. stepson, Rick Dale Martinez; and  grandmother, Margie Campbell Burt. 

David's family and close friends had a beautiful Celebration Of Life at his brother and sister-in-law's home on October 10, 2021.  David Joe was loved by all and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Friday, October 15, 2021 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408.
