Ernest Edward Hero

Mr. Ernest Edward Hero, age 82, of Gary, In, passed away February 4, 2020, at Great Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dyer, In.  He is survived by his daughter, Christy Hero Shaffer, brother, Jerry Vanbuskirk, sister, El-Lee Heaton, grandchildren, Terra and Columbus Harris, Cindy Shaffer, Brandy Hero, Daniel Hero, and Penny Hero.  Preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Maxine Hero, two sons, Donald and Terry "Munch" Hero, sister, Margret Lampton, and grandson, Terry Shaffer, Jr.  Mr. Hero was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he worked as a fireman from 1955-1957 and was also in the Naval Reserves from 1954-1962.  He will be sorely missed by his family and dear friends. Private Memorial Services will be held at the family's discretion. God bless the Hero family.
