Geraldine was born on September 3,1927 to parents Isaiah and Lee Bertha Pittman. She was the oldest of 13 children. Mrs. Gibson attended Kentucky State University, but left campus, knowing there were 12 other children at home who her parents were providing for. She subsequently attended Herzl Junior College in Chicago. Sewing and designing was displayed throughout her life including designing dance costumes for her late sister, Earnestine Williams. Her skills were honed at Vogue Masters College of Chicago, where she was offered the opportunity to go to Paris and further her design career. She declined the opportunity to marry the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Gibson on October 6, 1947.
Their union resulted in five children. Geraldine loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She stayed active in all of her children's activities, including PTA and Band Parents. She then assisted in raising enough money to help buy the entire West Side High School Marching Band new uniforms in the late 1970's. Outside of her family life, Mrs. Gibson loved gardening and always maintained beautiful landscaping around her home. She enjoyed dancing and music. She loved young people and had some of her best times attending sorority function with her youngest daughter.
Geraldine also knew God and made sure she always stayed active with her church homes. She helped start the gospel choir at Delaney United Methodist Church. She was the Youth Director at Pilgrim Missionary Baptish Church. She also attended Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
Geraldine is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert B. Gibson, Sr., 1 grandson, Darnell Maclin Jr., 1 great-grandson, Waymon R. Maclin, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
