Gerson Lopez was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Patria and Bernado Lopez on March 29, 1950. Gerson married Mary Alicea on September 4, 1976. They were married for 48 years.
Gerson graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1968. He then attended and graduated from Mizpa Bible Institute in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He served in the United States Marine Corp for ten years and was employed by Inland Steel (now Cleveland Cliffs) and retired after almost 50 years of dedicated service.
Gerson was a gifted worship singer who loved to praise the Lord with his beautiful voice along with his wife, Mary. One of his favorite past-times was being the church gardener and landscaper for over 20 years. His dedication and hard work were his admiration of the church members as well as the community.
This humble man dedicated his life to serving the Lord. He was an active and faithful member of his church and served as a deacon for many tears. He was also a youth leader and an adult group leader.
Mary often commented that Gerson "treated her like a queen" and she loved his green eyes. Norma, his eldest daughter, remembers how intelligent he was and how he would explain and teach them on all subjects. Gerson, Jr. states that his father was a true example of a Christian man of prayer who served the Lord with all his heart. Alvira was able to accept her father's great advice and guidance and this helped her in her life choices.
Preceded in death by his parents, Patria and Bernado Lopez, and brother, Josue.
He leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories: loving and devoted wife, Mary; three children, Norma (Phil) Ledet, Gerson (Kristy) Lopez, Jr., and Alvira (Mack) Lopez Jones; nine grandchildren, Jasmine, Candace, Phillip, Jr., Nicholas, Ali, Nehemiah, Mathias, Julia, and Angelina; siblings, Lydia, Raquel, Samuel, Rebecca, Abigail, Daniel, Elias, Dorcas, and Pedro.
We will remember Gerson for his humility, kindness, patience, intelligence and Christian example.
