Gladys Morgan

Gladys (Anderson) Morgan was 93 years young.  Gladys Morgan transcended to heaven April 2, 2022, in Carrollton, TX. She was born in Sledge, MS to George and Sally Anderson on 9/28/1928.  The family moved to Gary, IN, where she was raised by her grandparents after the loss of her mother at 8 years old.  They all called her “Baby”.   Gladys graduated with honors from Roosevelt High School in Gary.  After a short stint in bookkeeping with her uncle’s business, Dickerson Transport, she married William “Billy” Morgan and became a homemaker.  

She had a great laugh that was exuberant and merry.  A laugh to love. Gladys was blessed with a keen intelligence and memory, which made her a storyteller par excellence.  She was an avid reader of novels, with an ability, to recount the stories as though she personally knew the characters.  Continually she impressed upon her children the importance of reading, learning and studying. 

Gladys was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for friends, relatives and of course her children.  She was talented and could do most things well, but when asked what success was to her, she said, “To raise my children so that they will always love each other, be friends, be able to take care of themselves and be safe in this world.  That is success to me”.

Momma Gladys was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She is survived by her children, Tracy Morgan (Gary) Moton, Kimberly Morgan, Lyle (Sonja) Morgan, Gillian (Denise) Morgan, her niece Jeffrey Anderson (Dennis) Caine, seven grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, close cousin, Sharon Dickerson Combs, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sally (Dickerson) Anderson, her beloved husband of 67 years, William Morgan, “Billy” and her brother George Anderson Sr.   Her life- long sister friend, Finis Springer, joined her in Glory, the next day, April 3, 2022.

Visitation Thursday, April 14, 2022 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. with Homegoing Service 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West ridge Road Gary, Indiana.  Interment fern Oaks Cemetery Griffith, Indiana.

The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want, He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restoreth  my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His names' sake.  I AM HOME !
