Jessie Johnson Obituary

Rev. Jessie Nathaniel Johnson was born in Hurtsboro, Alabama to Frank and Emmaline (Berry) on August 13, 1935.  He attended Russell County Training High School in Hurtsboro.

Jessie relocated his family from Hurtsboro, Alabama in 1954 to East Chicago.  Rev. Johnson married Jeffie Pearl Liptrott on June 25, 1954 and later moved to Gary, Indiana. To this union , seven children were born, four (4) sons and three (3) daughters.

He was employed by Harbison Walker Refactories for 37 years and LTV Steel for 27 years.  Jessie was a successful business owner of J&J Roofing Company. After retirement, he passed it on to his younger son, Glen, who has continued to follow in his Dad's footsteps as a successful business owner of J&J Roofing.

He was saved under the pastorage of Elder Jake Givan and became a member of Emmanuel C.O.G.I.C.  Elder Johnson accepted the call to the ministry in 1961, and was ordained on August 2, 1970 by Bishop C.E. Bennett.

Elder Johnson and family became members of Whole Truth C.O.G.I.C. and he served as Assistant Pastor under Pastor Rollie Gulley for 29 years.  On October 27, 2001, the installation service of Pastor Jessie N. Johnson was held by Bishop Milton L. Hall (Prelate) and Mother Dorothy M.O. Blade.  He served Whole Truth loyally and supported faithfully.

Pastor Jessie Johnson transitioned from this life to his eternal home on August 20, 2021.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeffie Johnson, father, Frank Johnson, mother, Emmaline Johnson, three brothers, Curtis Harris, Colton Johnson, and Claude Johnson.

He leaves to cherish the fun memories, his beloved children, Harold (Annette) Johnson of Valparaiso, Indiana, Jesse (Jackie) Johnson of Gary, Indiana, Evelyn (Aaron) Sanders of Lawton, MI., Irma (Michael) Oliver of Valparaiso, Indiana, Linda Johnson of Gary, Indiana, Michael (Regina) Johnson of Cary, Alabama, Glen (Brandy) of Merrillville, Indiana, sister, Zacharas Jakes of Columbus, Georgia, 32 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, Josephine Johnson and Martha Johnson, and an extraordinary group of friends, to name a few, Emily Gulley, Elder & Mrs. Roosevelt Pullins and Pastor Charles Morris.
