Joann Boyd-McBride

Joann Boyd-McBride was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 10, 1960, to the union of her parents, Jeanette A. Jones and John L. Boyd. Joann was called "Jo" or "Jo-Jo", by her family and friends.

Joann started elementary school at Carnegie Elementary School and graduated from Edward Coles Elementary School. She attended high school at Bowen and Jones Commerical High School.  She had several employers. She worked for Medcall/Revell Medical, Classic Collection South Chicago, Family Dollar, and PLS. For the last 9 years she was employed with the United States Postal Service. Joann started as a mail handler and was promoted to Manager of Distribution Operations (MDO). She was a proud Postal Worker. Prior to leaving Chicago and moving to Indiana, she was united in marriage to Reginald McBride in November 2001.

Joann was a natural born "giver", determined and strong-willed. She was always there for her family and friends in time of crisis. She loved doing special things for her mom and her grandbabies. She loved meeting people and making friends. Most of all, she loved going to the casino, traveling, skating and dining out.

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Joann departed this life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginal McBride; her son, Tony Jovan; her father, John L. Boyd; brother, John L. Boyd, Jr.; and her baby sister, Mary Eliza Boyd-Franklin.

Joann now leaves to cherish her life's memory: two daughters, Nyckeba Boyd and Marica Boyd; mother, Jeanette A. Jones; sister, Diann Boyd-Shim; four grandchildren, Nykeisha Ivy, Nia Ivy, Nathalyah Sisson, and Sanaa Sisson; numerous nieces and nephews; family friends, Teo Adams and Theresa Taylor (Joann's Roadie); and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services Wednesday, April 12, 2023, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408.  Interment private.
