AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN
John Maxwell Golden, Sr., was born March 24, 1946, to the late Harvey and Helen Golden. He came to his final resting place at his home in Gary, Indiana where he was also born.
John joined the United States Air Force in 1964 after he graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School. He attended Purdue University and received his Bachelor's degree in Applied Science. He worked for NIPSCO and was an investigator for the Welfare Department. He was sworn in as a Gary Police Officer in 1979. After that he worked as security for Amoco Oil Refinery moving inside the refinery as an operator, retiring from it all due to illness.
John was baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost in 1962 under the late Bishop O.C. Garmon at Zion Temple Apostolic Church. He was later reclaimed and connected to Logan Park Assembly of Christ Church under the late Bishop George L. Stearnes, where he proudly served as a member of Logan Park Baptismal Committee and sang in the Brotherhood Choir. It was an honor for him to work with the brothers on Saturday, cleaning the church grounds. He enjoyed participating with the Sunday School Ensemble, opening up the Sunday School Service.
A loving family man, father of seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He formed a lasting bond when he was introduced to Sis. Beverly Williams and was united in Holy Matrimony on July 6, 1984.
