John Salvador Miranda, Sr.

Mr. John Salvador Miranda Sr. "Rody", age 85 of Lake Station, IN, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021.  John was born in Gary, IN. on September 18, 1935, to Celedonio and Vera. John met Anne Etling Miranda in the summer of 1956 to start a family.  They were married for 64 years.  Within those 64 years of love, they created 6 children; John (Elizabeth) Miranda, Deborah (Keith) Miranda-Soderquist, Mark Miranda, Sr., Eric (Vickie) Miranda, Scott Miranda, Sr., and Annemarie (Russell) Miranda-Molden.  He was always in laughter and joy with his 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife, Anne (Anna) Miranda; 6 children; brother, John Gutirerrez; sisters, Mary Garcia, Elvira Casillas, and Ellie (Jim) Cooper.

During his early years, he was a Fire Chief of Camp 133, Councilman at Large of Lake Station, member of the Lake Station Democratic Club, board member of Sociedad Mutualista Mexico, Social Organization of Mexican Independence Day Parade, a member of Glen Park Eagles and a Lake Station Caballero.  He was a diehard Colts fan even though his kids would purchase Chicago Bears gear.

After retiring from U.S. Steel after 42 years, John spent his days outside by the fire and doing yard work.  If you didn't see him outside raking you'd find him at the Dairy Queen.

John was preceded in death by his father, Celedonio; mother, Vera; brothers, Luis, Rodolfo, Manuel, Armando, Cipriano Garcia; and grandson, Trent Miranda.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with Funeral Services from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.  Father Jaime Perea, officiating.
