Joseph Johnson, Sr. Obituary

Joseph Euclid Johnson, Sr., was born to Edward and Elnora Johnson on August 10, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Joseph E. Johnson, Sr., attended Roosevelt High School in 1962 and 1963, then transferred to Froebel High School for his junior and senior year, and received his High School Diploma in 1965.  Everyone who knew him, knows he was a very intelligent man, and an excellent athlete in football and track.

Joseph started his career at United States Steel Corporation right after graduating.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1967.  He returned to Gary and resumed work at US Steel, where he became a Pipefitter Foreman.  He retired after 35 years of work and creating lifelong friends and memories.

He was not a vigilant church goer, but he always had a reverence for "THE GOOD LORD" as he often said.  He did accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior before going into eternity, and now is residing in paradise with our loved ones and his Savior.

Everyone knew Joe was a top- notch dresser and had a heart that matched.  He was an avid sports fan and would engage in any conversation about various topics because he was knowledgeable about many things.

On Friday, May 13, 2022, after a short illiness God embraced Joe in His arms and enfolded him in His love exchanging time for eternity.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Johnson, Sr. and Elnora Taylor, and his brothers, Edward Johnson, Jr., and David Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two sisters, Phyllis M. (Earnest) Carey and Patricia A. Brown; daughter, Kimberly Q. Johnson; three sons, Joseph (Olowa) Johnson, Jr., Jeffery Johnson, and Justin Johnson; two granddaughters, Joeya (Ronald) Chapman, and Zayd O. Johnson; four grandsons, Courtney E. Johnson, Isiah L. Elder, Wanyeh D. Elder, and Joshua D. Williams; three great-grandsons, Rhamere M. Chapman, Noah Y. Elder, and Cameron D. Elder; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

II Timothy 4:7-8

I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

The family wants to thank everyone for all their kind gestures, kind words, thoughts and prayers.  Continue to pray for the family's strength.  Thank you , The Johnson Family.
