Josephine Perez

It is with profound sadness that we, the children of Josephine "Chefy" Perez announce the passing of our beloved mother. "Chefy", as she was lovingly known to family, passed away on October 22, 2023, at the age of 78.

Josephine "Chefy" Perez was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico to the late Raymond and Leocadia Lugo on May 28, 1945. Shortly after making her journey to the United States, she would meet and marry her loving husband of 61 years, the late Luis P. Perez, Sr. From this union were born 4 daughters and one son.

Josephine was a most loving mother, devoted wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Retiring after 10 years of service from Trade Winds, she devoted her time to her family as a gracious homemaker. She also enjoyed watching and cheering on her favorite baseball team, The Chicago Cubs.

Joesphine is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luis P. Perez; her daughter, Sonia Yvette Perez; parents; brothers, Cesar, Victor, and Jose' Lugo; sisters, Eileen Marrero, Gloria Lugo, Norma Rivera Lugo, and Leocadia Lopez. 

Her precious memories will be cherished by her 4 children, Haydee Perez, Luis "Cano" Perez, Ana "Anita" Perez, and Vivian "Bibi" Perez; grandchildren, Ronald Walker, Jr., Haydee M. Walker, Anthony L. Walker, Luis Anthony Perez, Luis "Canito" Perez, Carlos Jose' Perez, Angel Luis Medellin Perez, Lothario D. Lindsay, Jr., Sonia Evette Lindsay, William R. Marshall, Jr., and Monique L. Marshall; great-grandchildren, Kashmere D. Moore, Jr., Anthony Walker, II, Aaliana Walker, Alijah Walker, Aalayah Walker, Lamar D. Williams, Jr., La'Renzo D. Williams, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation Friday, October 27, 2023 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with Funeral Service 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
