Juanita Paez Morquecho, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, devoted prayer warrior, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born on March 8, 1929, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to Tomas and Maxima Paez, who preceded her in death. She lived a life filled with love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family.
She was the devoted wife of the late Enrigue Morquecho, Sr., who preceded her in death on June 5, 2005. Juanita was a loving mother to her five children: Virginia (Bruce) Bertelsen, the late Henry Morquecho (October 9, 2021), Sylvia (Julio) Arevalo, Gustavo Jesus Morquecho, and Gerardo Alonzo Morquecho. She was a cherished grandmother to Brian (Kristen) Bertelsen, Brett Jason Bertelsen, Julian Enrique Arevalo, Tea Marie Morquecho, Arial Berenice Morquecho, Rubi Gabriela Morquecho, and Sara Edith Morquecho, and proud great-grandmother to Tyler John Bertelsen, Arabella Rose Bertelsen, and Theodore Huxley Bertelsen.
Juanita dedicated many years of hard work at Amoco Oil Refinery before retiring. She was an active and faithful member of Defenders of the Faith Church, where she found strength and purpose in her spiritual community. A gifted cook, she found immense joy in preparing meals that brought her family together, creating lasting memories around the table.
Her kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed but forever treasured. Juanita's legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to those she loved will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Juanita's life will be held on March 19, 2025, at Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. 219-980-5555.
