Lacricia Boyd was born on June 6, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Judge Alvin and Pearl Laws. She was one of six children.
In 1948, Lacricia moved with her family to Gary, Indiana. She attended Roosevelt High School, later transferring to Black Oak High School, and went on to graduate from Calumet High School.
Lacricia began her career in the beauty industry at Hi-Style Beauty Salon on 25th Avenue in Gary, Indiana. She later attended beauty school and became a licensed manicurist. She proudly served her country as a member of the United States Army Women's Corps.
Lacricia had a passion for creativity and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and carpentry. She was also active in sports, earning a second-place trophy in basketball and a first-place trophy in volleyball. She also played on a women's softball team for the United States Postal Service.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. Lacricia also faithfully served as a secretary for four different churches. She retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992, after many years of dedicated service.
In 1962, Lacricia married Gaston Boyd, and together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with three children; Rhonda, Gregory, and Stephanie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; two brothers; her husband, Gaston; and grandson, John.
She is survived by her sister, Gayle; her children, Rhonda, Gregory, and Stephanie (Cedrick); her grandchildren, Joshua, Jalen, Markese (Perry), Elexis, Erick and Aaniyah; and her great-grandchildren, including John, II and Alana.
Lacricia Boyd will be remembered for her strength, grace, creativity, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
