Lenard Darnell Young

Lenard Darnell Young was born to Darlene and Edward Young on February 7, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the 4th of 5 children born into the Young Family.

Young Lenard started his education at Kohn Elementary School, where he thrived at several sports; such as football, basketball and baseball. He also discovered his strong passion for music and began learning to play instruments like the piano and drums. Later on, he went to Fenger High School where he practiced the disciplines of the ROTC Program. Following his formative years, Lenard acquired an abundance of various skills. He learned the trade of welding, practiced culinary arts, and he also had an eye for mechanics. Anything he put his hands on and mind to, was blessed.

In Lenard's career, his work ethic and intelligence awarded him high responsibilities.  He was the manager of Ultra Foods for several years, then he started a new position at the steel mill with Cleveland Cliffs (Inland Steel). Lenard worked hard and was appreciated by many.

Lenard had the love of God, and showed respect for his community. He participated in several charitable acts like ; Community Clean Up and Back to School Giveaways. He always put forth his best in order to be a provider for his loved ones; which was bountiful. Being with Lenard was full of entertainment and he enjoyed a good time. He loved family gatherings and bringing people together.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Young.

Lenard was a proud husband and married his loving wife, Ebony in 2019; he was an amazing father to 5 children; Antonio Seals, Lenard L. Young, KiShayla Young, James Young, and Lenajah Young; beloved mother, Darlene Young; two sisters, Edwina Hampton and Lavern Smith; two brothers, Darren Young and Lugman (Patrice) Ali; granddaughter, Ava; mother-in-law, Patricia Barnes; brother-in-law, Patrick Howard; 3 sisters-in-law, Zakia Brodnax, Trina Brodnax, and Sharquise Brodnax and a host of nieces; nephews; family and dear friends. Lenard's memories will live on through us all and he will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

Visitation Wednesday, October 11, 2023 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with Homegoing Services 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery Griffith, Indiana 46319.
