Lila M (Williams) Self

Lila M. Self, age 75, was born on March 18, 1949, in East Gary, Indiana and she died peacefully in her home on October 3, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Self, Sr.; parents, Owen and Mary Williams; brothers, Fred Williams, Jim Williams and Harry Williams; sisters, Linda Woodruff and Almira Maneno.

Lila leaves behind her loving children, Mary (Mike) Davis and Rick (Rhonda) Self; grandchildren, Cory (Cheryl) Davis, Tyler (Cheyenne) Davis, Steven (Christy) Self, Ashley (Clint) Self; great-grandchildren, Cory Jr., Aizen, and Jade Davis, Brantley Self, Layla Grace Williams, and Alivia Roderick. Lila had a very special person in her life that saved her many years ago; they've been friends for many years, Sheila Scott, thank you for saving her.

Lila volunteered for many years at River Forest Elementary School as a PTA member, popcorn lady and anywhere they needed her. Many called her Mom or Grandma. She was a past Eastern Star and a notary for over 30 years. She served on the New Chicago Park Board for a few years and was a Corporal in the Indiana National Guard Reserve for 6 years.

Lila will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Visitation Thursday, October 10, 2024, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Service 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana. Military Honor burial following services from Ridgelawn Cemetery 4401 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408.
