Lillie Mae Johnson was born on November 23, 1946, in Houston, Mississippi to Ernest and Zora Mae Murray. She was the oldest of nine siblings. She was a graduate of Houston High School in Houston, Mississippi and later relocated to East Chicago, Indiana.
Once in East Chicago, she met the love of her life, Lester Johnson. She was employed at Marshall Fields in Calumet City, Illinois until they closed and was later employed by Lincoln's in Highland, Indiana, until she officially retired when they closed the restaurant.
Lillie was a very special soul. She was loved by everyone she came in contact with. The sweetest person in the world, who would help anyone in their time of need, even if it was just feeding them or giving them a place to stay. Lillie was all about family; she spent time with her children and grandchildren daily. She also made sure she spoke to her sisters and brothers daily.
Lillie was a very strong person. After her stroke, she could not walk or hardly speak, but she fought through it and began to walk and regain her speech. She could not be in one place after that. She loved to shop, so she was able to go shopping and walk around the store when she wanted to, which is what she loved to do rather than spending time with her family and talking on the phone. Her body grew tired and weary and the Lord told her it was time to come home.
Lillie is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Zora Mae Murray; husband, Lester Johnson; sister, Mary Petry, and brother, Richard Murray.
She leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories: two devoted daughters, Kimberly Disco and Nichole Johnson- (Samuel) Griffin; loving son, Nicholas Johnson; five beautiful grandchildren, Anthony Disco, Ashley Armstrong, Arrianna Johnson, Adonnis Johnson, and Nicolai Jordan; three great-grandchildren, Kalleigh Gould, Kenton Disco, and Kaylen Isabell; three loving sisters, Rosland Murray, Annette Hatchett, and Georgia Murray; three loving brothers, Ernest Murray, Jr., David (Debra) Murray, and Dwight Murray; special friends, Anthony and Jerla Disco; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, whom she loved and cared for deeply.
