Lizzie Mae Body Tapp was born in Camden (Madison County) Mississippi, on January 6, 1934 to Ernest (Columbus) and Annie Mae Body. She was the oldest of eleven siblings
Lizzie was wed in holy matrimony to James Tapp, Sr. on July 21, 1956, and to this union three sons were born: James Jr., Elmo, and Gregory.
She gave her life to God at an early age and has been a member of Sanders Temple COGIC for many years under the pastorage of Bishop B.A. Sanders.
Lizzie Tapp's years of employment began at Oak Forest Hospital as a nurses aide. She continued her career at St. Margaret Hospital in Environmental Services. While working these jobs she also cleaned homes and worked with the Precinct Committeemen during the summer. She also worked as a crew leader with the Manpower Program. She then went to work for the Anderson Company/ Anco as an assembly line worker. She retired after fifteen years of service.
After her retirement, she became her husband's caregiver. While he was in the nursing home, she never missed a day, making sure he was well taken care of.
Lizzie was also a member of Christ Temple Community Church Senior Care Ministry. Her helpful nature allowed her to take dinners to those whom were homebound. She was a great help and a participant to the Christ Temple Community Church Karate Ministry. She was always willing and able to assist anyone when she could.
She had a great love for her sons. She wouldn't let them get away with ANYTHING !
On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at 8:45 a.m., she took her last breath. God has blessed her to see eighty-eight years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Tapp, Sr.; parents, Ernest and Annie Mae Body; two sisters, LaRose Luckett and Mable Body Luckett; and two brothers, Charlie and Ceasar Body.
Lizzie is survived by three sons, James Tapp, Jr., Master Elmo (Cecelia) Tapp, and Gregory Tapp all of Gary, Indiana; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren: three sisters, Sallie B. Taylor and Louise A. Body of Milwaukee, WI, and special niece raised as her sister, Carrie J. (Roosevelt) Watkins of St. Louis, MO; four brothers, Henry C. (Bonnie) Body of Spring, TX, Theodore Body of Mardola Spring, MD, Matthew Body of Chicago Heights, IL., and Thomas L. Body of Milwaukee, WI. Special friends, Florine Benton, Mother Hill, and Mae Evans. Her adopted daughters, Robin and Kisha Jelks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she dearly loved, and they loved her.
Mama Tapp will be truly missed by all who cared and loved her. Take your rest, Mama. We love you.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, 2022, 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. with Homegoing Services 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
