Manuel Lee Watkins

Manuel Lee Watkins, age 94, peacefully passed this life on May 11, 2026. Born on May 26, 1931, in Villa Ridge, Illinois, to Smith and Ollie Watkins, Manuel lived a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and love.

A proud United States Army veteran, Manuel later moved to East Chicago, Indiana, where he worked at Inland Steel Mill. He shared 67 beautiful years in marriage with his beloved wife, Delores "Sugarfoot" Watkins, and together they built a loving home in Gary, Indiana 

Manue enjoyed caring for his vehicles, spending time outdoors, and watching over his neighborhood, but nothing brought him greater joy than his family. he will be remembered for his warm spirit, devotion, strength, and unwavering love for those closest to him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Watkins; daughter, Roena Henderson; stepson, Michael Vinson; his parents, and several siblings.

Manuel leaves to cherish his memory: children, Gregory Watkins and Greta Gillis; siblings, Mable DeVoe, Jimmie Watkins, Christine Watkins, and Rev. Elizabeth Watkins; grandchildren, Aisha Vinson, Michael Vinson, II, Jermaine Bivins, LaRonde Gillis, Ajagbe Gillis, and Kyum Gillis; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
