Margaret Peoples was born on September 28, 1928, in Indianola, MS. to Eddie and Elwilder Linwood. She moved to East Chicago, IN. in 1955, where she raised her four children. Margaret began her employment as a press operator for a dry cleaning business. She went on to work for East Chicago school system, later worked for St. Catherine Hospital in the custodian/maintenance department. Ms. Peoples fellowshipped with Tabernacle Baptist Church in East Chicago, IN. Margaret enjoyed going to concerts and festivals. She was the first event coordinator to bring Blues musicians to East Chicago and the Marina Lakefront Festival. It was important to Margaret for future generations to know the lineage of the Lipscomb family. She planned the first Lipscomb Family Reunion in 1991. She was instrumental with expanding future celebrations to other branches of the family. Margaret peacefully transitioned on September 9, 2020, at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Elwilder Lipscomb; 2 children, Terry Lipscomb and Bobbie Jean Evans; 3 brothers, Eddie, Van, and John; 5 sisters, Edna, Catherine, LuVerne, Bobbie Rose and Treeon. Ms. Peoples leaves immediate family to continue her legacy, 2 daughters, Brenda (Oscar) Harmon, and Helen Lipscomb; brother, Ben (Yen) Lipscomb; 2 granddaughters, Bonita Lucas and Brandi Carter-Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will miss her dearly.
