Maria Antonia Castro

Maria Antonia Castro "Tona" was born to Tomasa Alicea and Lucresiano Adorno on August 26, 1936, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico.

Maria moved to East Chicago, Indiana in her early teens and after a few years met and married Jose Luis Castro on February 24, 1956.

Maria was a homemaker and a devoted mother to: Azalia (Moses) Marrero, Osvaldo Castro, Sandra Castro, Cenaida Castro, Jose L. Castro, Jr., Marisol (Gilbert) Ortiz, Baudilio Castro, and Antonio Castro; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters; nephews; nieces; and a host of other family members and precious friends.

Maria possessed a wonderful sense of humor, was compassionate, humble and highly giving and helpful. She greeted each day with a smile and sense of being blessed.

Maria accepted Christ into her life and was a faithful member of the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal in East Chicago, Indiana for many years, where she continued her years serving the Lord, praying and singing "coritos" worship songs.

On December 17, 2022, at the age of 86, Maria answered her hHeavenly Father's call by transitioning from earth's realm into eternal life, bound for Glory ! She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jose Luis Castro; her sons, Jose L. Castro, Jr., and Baudilio Castro.

May we so live to enjoy that day when the Lord may say to us, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matt: 25:21)

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28, 2022, 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. with Funeral Service 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Additional Visitation Thursday, December 29, 2022, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
