Maria Ortiz Nieves

Maria Ortiz Nieves, age 95 of Gary, Indiana, died peacefully in her home with her family by her side Sunday morning, October 8, 2023. Mrs. Nieves was born on October 3, 1928, in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Santos and Silveria Pagan.

She married the late Enrique O. Nieves. Mrs. Nieves was a loving homemaker, an Avon saleswoman, a supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital, and loved her lottery scratch-offs.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Enrique O. Nieves; her beloved parents, Santos and Silveria Pagan; beloved stepmother, Monserrat; loving son, Henry Ortiz, III, beloved grandson, Wilfredo Almodovar, II, loving son-in-love, Manuel Garcia; loving daughter-in-love, Rafaela Ortiz; and all of her loving siblings and in-laws.

Maria leaves to cherish her memories: her loving children; Margarita (Angel) Lugo from McDonough, GA., Consuelo Garcia of North Port, FL., Isabelita Fraticelli of Gary, IN., Mary Pagan of Bourbonnais, IL., Mildred (Lynn) Strong of Gary, IN., Martha Merced of Hobart, IN., William Ortiz of Portage, IN., Nancy (Dana) Bigley of Naples, FL., John Ortiz (fiance', Stephanie Picard) of Symrna, GA.; and Robert (Edward) Ortiz-Faubel of Orange, TX; 32 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 10, soon to be 12 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Friday, October 13, 2023 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Deacon Javier Patino, officiating. Interment Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 801 Michigan City Road Calumet City, IL. 60409. Maria will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends.
