Mary J. Odom was born on November 30, 1941, to Enoch J. Sr. and Mary L. Kimbrew, in Evansville, In., the second of four children.. She graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School Class of 1959. She attended Indiana University Northwest studying nursing. She also styled hair , early in life. Mary married Melvin Myles on September 4, 1965 and John Odom on August 29, 2007. she was employed by the Gary Public School System, working at Roosevelt High School, Banneker Elementary School and West Side High School for more than 40 years. Mary was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the gift of the Holy Spirit at the Dixmoor House of Prayer in Dixmoor, IL. In her younger years she enjoyed singing in a group with her sister, Brenda Kimbrew and cousin, Patty Taliefero. Later moving her membership to Logan park Assembly of Christ Church under the pastorage of Elder George L. Stearnes. She served as a faithful member. Sunday School student, Nursery Mom and Bulletin Committee member and any service her heart and hands allowed, until moving her membership after marriage to Pastor John Odom, to the Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Chicago, IL., to continue serving the Lord with her husband. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Sr. and Mary Kimbrew; sister, Brenda Adams and Brother-in-law, Joseph Adams, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory, devoted husband of 12 years, John Odom of Chicago, IL.; loving siblings, Carolyn (Donald) Golden of Gary, IN., Enoch (Debra) Kimbrew Jr.; loving and devoted daughters, Michele (Derrick) Frazier of Flossmooor IL., Mia (Kevin) Hubbard of Merrillville, IN., and Maya Myles of East Chicago, IN.; loving sons, Marvin Myles of Champaign Urbana, IL., and Michael Myles of Chicago, IL.; grandchildren, Mkiyah Goodlow, Adrian Mason, Wayne Caldwell Jr., Mariah Harris, Wayan Caldwell and Leeroy Caldwell; sister-in-law, Earline Davis and best friends, Diane and Evangelist Jackie Williams. Visitation for Mrs. Odom will be Monday, July, 27, 2020, from 10:00 am - 11:30 am. form Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, In. Interment immediately following at Ridgelawn Cemetery.
