Melvin was born on July 27, 1958 in Gary, Indiana to Tom Wilson (deceased) and Bernestine Wilson (Hollis). After graduating from West Side High School in 1976 he was awarded a full-scholarship to Purdue University, but he felt his calling was meant for greater heights and enlisted in the Air Force as a Foreign Interpreter in Aug 1976. In July 1977, he married Joann Dozier and they had 7 children, Lasea, Melvin Jr, Jehoaddan, Euodias, Matthew, Sarah and Marcus. In the church, Melvin and Joeann became ordained ministers and established churches across the country.
After Joeann and Melvin divorced, he met and married Kimberely Bell Oct 1992 and added 2 more children to the family, Lamar and Tony Bell. During this time, Melvin and Kimberly owned and operated a popular a hair salon and barbershop called Outward Appearance.
When they divorced, he met Rose McKinley in 2013.
Melvin was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Melvin was a passionate carpenter and could often be found fishing, singing and barbecuing. Anyone who knew Melvin knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Melvin was predeceased by sister Victoria Wilson and father, Tom Wilson.
