Mercedes S. (Soto) Cardiel

Mercedes "Moto" S. Cardiel, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at her home in East Chicago, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 24, 1929, in East Chicago, Indiana.

 She was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago, Indiana. Mercedes was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Anthony "Tony" Cardiel; son, Mark Anthony Cardiel; beloved parents, Lorenzo and Victoria Soto; three brothers, Jesse, Andrew, and Manuel; three sisters, Angie, Helen, and Vicki.

Mercedes is survived by her loving sons, Michael, Mark, Kenneth, Manuel, and Tony, Jr., Cardiel; brother, Vincent (Becks) Soto; eight grandchildren, Irene, Vanessa (Jesus) Moya, Ilianna, Richard, Michelle, Mark Jr., Elizabeth, and Jacob; fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Mercedes "Moto" will be dearly missed by her loving family and dear spiritual family and friends. God grant her eternal life.

Visitation Wednesday, November 15, 2023, 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. with Christian/ Jehovah Witness Service Thursday, November 16, 2023, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Both services held from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
