Modesto Perez Obituary

Modesto Perez, 90, a resident of East Chicago, IN., went home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Modesto was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Peggy, his beloved daughter, Norma; parents, Fernando and Margarita Perez; and brother, Samuel (Maria) Perez.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated daughters, Sheila (James) Blasko and Rita (Luis) Lopez; beloved granddaughter and "APPLE" of his eye, Alayna; brother, Fernando (Ana) Perez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born in Moca, Puerto Rico, he carried the spirit of his island with him when he came to the mainland, where he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and tradition. Music from Puerto Rico filled his home and his heart, keeping him closely connected to his roots and bringing him comfort and joy.

He spent many dedicated years working at Inland Steel, where his strong work ethic and quiet determination defined his career until retirement.

He was a man of simple joys and deep passions. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he stood by his team through every game of every season, celebrating their victories and enduring their losses with unmatched loyalty. He had a profound love for animals- especially birds- and cared for them with remarkable patience and tenderness.

During his spare time, he found peace and purpose in his garden. His roses were his pride and joy, and he nurtured them with care and attention. His garden stood as a reflection of his gentle spirit and enduring dedication.

Above all, he was a man who loved deeply. He fiercely protected and cherished his family, standing as a source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love until the end.

He will be remembered for his warmth, his quiet strength, and the love he gave so freely. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, in the songs he loved, the roses he grew, and the lives he touched.

With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, he is leaving behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and unwavering pride in his heritage. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends who loved him deeply.

We are thankful to his Residence of Deer Creek family where he was cared for with love, patience and kindness.
