Norma J Mitchell

Mrs. Norma J. Mitchell, age 83, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020, with her family by her side.  Born May 9, 1937, in Norfolk, West Virginia to Arnold and Clara Clayton.  She was a driver for the Gary Transit Corporation, yard clerk, key punch operator, and secretary for the EJ&E Railroad.  She retired as an Executive Secretary for the EJ & E Railroad. Mrs. Mitchell was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gary, IN., serving as financial secretary, participated in the choir and was a counselor for the Jr. Ushers.  Preceded in death by her stepfather, Andrew Barrett; and aunt, Lillian Brown.  She leaves to cherish her memories, loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Quinton Jr. and Tracey McKnight; grandchildren, Arien (special friend, Yeimy), Porsche (special friend, George), Quinton (special friend, Tiara), Nina, Maya, Mycheal, Kayla, and Corey; ten great-grandchildren, favorite cousin, Terri Thorpe of Cleveland, OH., and a host of many other relatives and friends.  Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28, 2020, from 9am-11am with Homegoing Services at 11am from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.  May God bless the Mitchell families.
