Nydia Otero passed away peacefully in Orlando, Florida with her family by her side on February 7, 2023. Nydia was born on November 8, 1948, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, to the late Pablo Colon, Sr. and Angelina Torres.
Nydia retired after 20 years of service with the School City of East Chicago, Indiana as the Head Chef and Supervisor, a position she held until her retirement.
She was a member of Spanish Pentecostal Church Of God, Inc. in Hammond, Indiana. Nydia was the Ladies President, President of Christian Love, and Missions President. She received numerous certificates and awards for her hard work and dedication to the church.
In 2019, Nydia moved to Orlando, Florida, and became a proud member of Iglesia un Nuevo Renacer A.I.C. soon after. She was also the Ladies President for a short time until God called her home. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 91.
Nydia was preceded in death by her loving parents, Pablo Ramon Colon, Sr. and Angelina Torres; her sons, Clotilde Miranda and Pablo (Carmen) Colon.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of over 40 years, Francisco Otero; 3 children, Carlos Vega, Lisandra (Felix) Rodriquez, and Eric (Luzmaria) Otero; sister, Awilda Pedrogo; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; niece; cousins and friends.
Nydia Otero will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She had such an amazing smile and great personality She impacted the lives of everyone she came in contact with.
Visitation Friday, February 17, 2023, from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. with Funeral Services 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with additional Visitation Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery Gary, Indiana.
