Odessa Banks was born November 4, 1940, in Quitman County, Mississippi to McKinley and Johnnie Brooks. From an early age, she displayed a profound love for Christ and an unwavering commitment to her faith.
In 1955, Odessa married Ishmel Banks, and together they built a loving home, raising three children. She had a deep love for her family and friends, and she was known for her generosity-always ensuring that no one left her home hungry. She found joy in planting flowers, and visitors to her home were always welcomed by a beautifully blooming yard. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, and she enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She was blessed with a long and fulfilling life of 84 years.
Odessa was preceded in death by her husband, Ishmel; her daughter, Lisa, and her son Larry.
She leaves behind cherished memories with her sons, Melvin and Carl; her grandchildren; Latoya, Gina Ashley, Jasmine, Katina, and Larry, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Jasmine, and Melvin; brother, Excel (Linda) Brooks; niece, Neeta Moore; special friends and caregivers; Michelle, Joyce, Anita, Gwen, and Mamie; loving Pastor, Herman A. Polk, Sr., and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
