Richard L. Gray, Jr.

Richard Lee Gray, Jr. was born November 29, 1954 to Rev. Richard L. and Jessie Gray in Somerville, Tennessee, as the oldest of eight children.  He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois.  When his family moved to Gary, Indiana, he remained in the body of Christ as a member of the Mercy Seat M. B. Church, singing in the choir, and Choir Director.

Richard graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1973, Gary, Indiana.  He had an exceptional natural ability in drawing and attended the Chicago Art Institute.  He worked in construction and was known for his easy-going demeanor, debonaire-style of attire, love of people and music.

Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated loving parents, Rev. Richard L. and Jessie Gray; his children, Richard L. (Tracey) Gray III, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Ryan Gray, Cincinnati, Ohio; Nakiesha (Jarnell) Seltz, Gary, Indiana; Janay Gray, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; fifteen grandchildren.  His siblings Debra Cheesebourough, Indianapolis, Indiana; Rev. Marilyn Gray (Frank), Illinois; Janice Gray, Indianapolis, Indiana; Cynthia Murphy, Crown Point, Indiana; Justina Gray (Derrick), Gary, Indiana; Rodrick Gray, Louisville, Kentucky; Evangelist Demetrice Barnes (Carlton) Barnes, Crown Point, Indiana; Delores Woods, Memphis Tennessee; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; one Aunt, Evelyn Dodson, Memphis, Tennessee, and his Mercy Seat M. B. Church Family.

He was preceded in death by his son, RoSean L. Gray, October 2017.

A Celebration of His Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, Indiana 46408 - 219 980-5555.  A Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Monday before the services at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Ridgelawn-Mount Mercy Cemetery, 4401 West Ridge Road, Gary, Indiana 46408.  Flowers, and condolences can be sent to Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, Indiana 46408.
