In Loving Memory of Ronald Bass, a Distinguished Navy Veteran
Ronald Bass was born in Hammond, Indiana on May 14, 1969, to parents Deborah Laws and Ronald Bass, Sr., and raised by his loving mother, Deborah Laws Harris. He graduated from Hammond High School where he received several awards for wrestling, band, and the swim team. After graduation he joined the United States Navy.
Enlisting in the United States Navy at a young age, Ronald displayed exceptional courage and commitment throughout his military career. He served with honor and distinction, rising through the ranks to achieve the rank of AOCS- Senior Chief Petty Officer. His unwavering dedication to duty and selfless sacrifice earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and superiors alike.
During his time in the Navy, Ronald was deployed to numerous locations around the world, including Operation Desert Storm, bravely defending freedom and upholding the values he held dear. He also received several awards including the Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corp Achievement Medal-5, Meritorious Unit Commendation-2, Navy "E" Ribbon-2, Good Conduct Medal-7, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/Bronze Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. His service took him to the depths of the sea and the farthest reaches of the globe, where he demonstrated resilience, leadership, and unwavering patriotism completing 30 years of service.
Beyond his military service, Ronald was a beloved member of his community, known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. He was a devoted and loving father, son, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ronald leaves behind his beloved mother, Deborah Laws Harris; father, Ronald Bass, Sr.; children, Roni Bass, Christopher Bass, and Joseph Bass; siblings, Takeya Lewis, Felicia Bass, Ronald Bass, Jr., Kellie Bass, and Rhonda Bass; doting grandmother, Joyce Laws; and a host of relatives and friends who will cherish him forever.
Fair winds and following seas, Dear Ronald. Your courage, integrity, and compassion will forever be remembered and cherished. Rest in peace, shipmate.
