Rosalyn Lee Obituary

Rosalyn Rene' Lee of Merrillville, Indiana was born December 7, 1957, to Constance Jackson and Sherman Lee in Decatur, Illinois.  Soon, they moved to Gary, Indiana where she attended and graduated from Holy Trinity School and Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana.  Rosalyn attended Western Michigan University where she joined the Delta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  In 1981, she attained dual Bachelor degrees in communication and elementary education.  Rosalyn would continue her education at Purdue University-Calumet, receiving her Master's in education.

After graduating, she began her career with the Gary Community School Corporation.  Rosalyn served as an excellent educator to both general and special education scholars at various schools throughout the district, including Norton Elementary and Westside High School for 34 years.  She was proud of her role as the District Coordinator for the Intra City Student Counsel and a devoted class sponsor to WSHS class of 2006.  Rosalyn's passion for teaching led her to other opportunities such as becoming a faculty member of Ivy Tech Community College and as an instructor at Sylvan Learning Center. Although Rosalyn retired from GCSC in 2004, she continued to educate others with positions at Thea Bowman Leadership Academy and most recently at Gary Middle College.

Rosalyn joined the Upper Room Church in 1998, under the leadership of Mother Mattie Taylor and continued to be a faithful member under Pastors Timothy and Marshai Mays.  She was Asst. Superintendent of Sunday School and Sunday School teacher, a member of the Usher Board, Beautification Committee, and the Pastor's Aide Committee.  Rosalyn opened her heart and her home to several families by becoming a foster parent until 2014.

On April 6, 2022, Rosalyn exchanged earthly time for her heavenly reward.  She is preceded in death by her father, Sherman Lee; 2 brothers, Marvin Glasper and Larry Evans.

She leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Constance Jackson of Gary, Indiana; daughter, Brandyce Dione Powell and grandsons, Cameron Dupray and Caleb Dion-Rashad of Valparaiso, Indiana; sister, Dr. LaTeasa Hicks of Alabama; 2 brothers, Forrest Glasper, Sr., Ralph (Marsha) Riley; niece, Jennifer Riley; great-niece, Savannah Allen all of Gary, Indiana; cousin, Gloria A. Bowers of Denver, Colorado; godchildren, Shamar Mays of Portage, Indiana, Felicity Taylor of Merrillville, Indiana; special sons, Jacariay Taylor, James Cory Jordan, Domonique Rankin, and Joseph Pittman III; her Delta Upsilon sisters, Theresa, Carmyn, Arlene, Angela, Shirley, Rhonda, Lynn, and Belindia; dearest friends, Deirdre Crudup, Kathy Powers, Monice Lillie, and a host of family, friends, and colleagues.
