Rose Yvonne Thornton

Rose Yvonne Thornton, first born child of Thomas Lee Davis and Marchioness M. Davis, was born September 11, 1953, in Decatur, Alabama.

Following the completion of grade school, Rose earned her high school diploma from Westside High School in Gary, Indiana, also attending Andrean High School until her senior year. Rose earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 1976. Rose, a passionate educator, specialized in Special Needs and Art for 30 plus years at Gary Community School and South Bend School Corporation.

Rose married her childhood sweetheart, George Thornton on October 31, 1972. From this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Lia Raquel Thornton and Jasmine Rose Thornton, who passed away in 2008.

Rose Yvonne was a loving, awesome wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, educator, friend, and neighbor. Rose answered God's call on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 3:15 p.m.

She was preceded by her loved ones who she will be greeted by their heavenly arms; father, Thomas Lee Davis; mother, Marchioness M. Davis; and daughter, Jasmine Rose Thornton.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Lia Raquel Thornton; granddaughter, Sarah Rose Bishop; two sisters, Ann M. Davis and Thomi C. Davis; especially cousins and best friends, Cheryl E. Batteast, and Jeannie Jenkins; three nieces; and a host of great-grand nieces; seven nephews; a host of great-grand nephews; cousins and friends who adored her.

Visitation Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with Homegoing Services 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment private.
