Sally Leah Harvey

Sally Leah Harvey was born on October 8, 1951, in Buffalo, New York. She was the third of eight children born to Robert and Leah Steeb. She confessed Christ and was baptized in the Lutheran church at an early age. Sally grew up in Orchard Park, New York, before her family relocated to Lansing, Illinois, where she graduated from Thornton Fractional High South High School in 1969.

Sally met Dennis Harvey of East Chicago, Indiana and was married on August 15, 1970, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in East Chicago. To this 54-year union were born two sons and five daughters. Sally and Dennis raised their family in Gary, Indiana, and made their homes at Agape Ministries under Pastor Larry Hankel and Spirit of God under Pastors Victor Davis and James Middleton.

She realized her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher in 1995 when she began her career as an educator at Spirit of God Accelerated Education in Gary. Sally was a 1st grade teacher at Spirit of God for decades, retiring in 2016. She truly had a passion for helping children learn and connecting with her students.

Sally was an avid reader and coffee connoisseur, who also loved to laugh, enjoy romantic comedies, play cards with her family and watch her favorite sitcoms- Seinfeld and The Nanny. She was the best cook and loved holidays with family, cruise vacations with her husband, splashing in her pool, baking, sewing, collecting antiques, thrifting, shopping and spending time with her beloved siblings, Kristin, Rebecca, Jennifer, Eloise and Jim. Sally was a great friend to all, especially her best girlfriends: Gina Theiss, Faith Davis, Barbara Johnson, Becky Messina, sister/cousin, Gretchen Foster and the late, Lois Harper.

After standing on her faith and fighting a good fight, Sally passed away on August 15, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Leah Braymiller Steeb; brothers, David Steeb and Robert Steeb, Jr.

Sally leaves to forever cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Dennis Harvey of Gary, Indiana; loving children: Justin Harvey of Indianapolis, Indiana; Aimee Harvey of Chicago, Illinois; Molly (Milton) Reed of East Chicago, Indiana; Amanda Harvey of Merrillville, Indiana; Jessica (David) McCaney of Las Vegas, Nevada; Timothy Harvey of Gary, Indiana, and Jennifer Harvey of Gary, Indiana; beloved grandchildren: Cantrell "CJ", Jaylen, Jacqueline, Josiah, Jabez ,Jakai, Jason, Autumn, Chanel, Brielle and baby Maverick; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Sally loved many people, but most of all- she loved Jesus Christ. She was a true woman of God and intercessory prayer warrior who touched the lives of everyone she met with the love of the Lord.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 24, 2024, 10:00 a.m.-11 a.m. with Homegoing Service 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. from Flourish Church 3935 Cleveland Street Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery 4401 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408.
