Scherita Lynn Deloney was born August 14, 1974, in Mount Vernon, Texas to Deborah Lynn Deloney and Tom Mayweather.
During the first five years of her life, Scherita began developing a love for the Lord as she attended church with her grandmother at Denton Baptist Church in Commerce, Texas. In 1978, Scherita moved to Gary, Indiana with her mother, then eventually became the oldest of three sisters. In 1992, Scherita graduated from Wirt High School in Gary. From there she attended Texas A&M University (formerly East Texas State University) in Commerce, Texas. There she was employed with Texas Instruments in Dallas, and worked until she permanently relocated back to Indiana in early 2004. After returning to Indiana, she began working for U.S. Steel in Gary where she remained employed for over ten years until she became disabled.
Scherita was introduced to holiness by her sister, Rasheda, who was attending Logan Park Assembly of Christ Church. Scherita began attending faithfully as well. Soon, a love and desire to wholeheartedly serve the Lord had been birthed into her. Scherita accepted the Lord as her Savior on October 3, 2004, and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (forgiveness) of sin according to the scripture, Acts 2:38. On January 31, 2005, she was filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost according to John 3:5. During her membership at Logan Park, she served in several capacities including the choir, kitchen committee, missionary staff, and most recently she became a Sunday School teacher (Class 11).
Scherita truly enjoyed cooking, taking care of her three heartbeats, Hope, Joy, and Jamuel Jr., and most importantly serving in the house of the Lord. Scherita was also known to be an encourager to many. She sent daily texts of scriptures and uplifting messages to her brothers and sisters in the Lord. She truly enjoyed the saints.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Deborah Lynn Deloney; father, Tom Mayweather; and grandparents, Curtis Sr. and Mattie Deloney.
Scherita unexpectantly traded this life to spend eternity with Jesus on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the age of 49.
She leaves to cherish loving memories to her two sisters, Rasheda (Jamuel) Hope-Tidwell and Demetria "Meme" Hope; twin nieces, Hope and Joy Tidwell; and nephew, Jamuel "Dee" Tidwell, Jr. all of Portage, Indiana; step-niece, Jada Tidwell of Indianaoplis, Indiana; aunts, Barbara Anderson and Sandra (Daryl) Martin both of Commerce, Texas; uncles, Curtis (Uronda) Deloney, Jr. of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Thomas (Debra) Deloney of Mount Vernon, Texas; Marion "Sonny" Hope, who has been a father figure to her; cousins, Brandi Watson-Applewhite and Jermaine Anderson, Lonzetta, Shannon, Desiree and Scherazade Deloney, Ebonee and Keisha Martin; special brother -in-the Lord, Jarrett "Papoose" Simmons, Jr., and a host of friends.
