Sharon Denise Huntley debuted 73 years ago on December 12, 1951, as the fourth of five children born to proud parents, Bennye and Arthur Huntley of Gary, Indiana.
This glorious day happened exactly 9 months after the birth of her future husband, William Taylor, and one month after an F2 tornado tore through the Glen Park area of the city of Gary.
Sharon attended Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana. She participated in the Girl's Athletic Association, ironically, as a "Lady Tornado" and developed a joy for swimming. It was here that she met her high school sweetheart, William J. Taylor and together, they attended senior prom and other school dances. She became Mrs. Sharon Taylor on February 13, 1971, when the two became one in holy matrimony at New Mount Moriah Church in Gary, Indiana.
In 1973, Sharon heard the gospel of Jesus Christ preached by O.C. Garmon at Zion Temple Apostolic Church. It was here that she followed the plan of salvation and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. She received the gift of the Holy Ghost on December 10, 1973. This newfound faith walk would become the very foundation of all that she would live out as a woman of God.
In the early 80's, William and Sharon began attending Logan Park Assembly of Christ Church in Gary, Indiana, where Bishop George Stearnes was the Pastor. Sharon became active in the church almost immediately and served on the Usher Board, taught Sunday School, and coached the church's National Bible Bowl Team. She represented the Logan Park Sunday School Department as a delegate for the State of Indiana Apostolic Bible Student Association. She would later serve as the representative for the State of Indiana at the National A.B.S.A. convention.
Sharon responded to the call to ministry in 2001, where she began ministerial duties and became known as Evangelist Sharon Taylor. She carried out such service as preaching the word of God, visiting the sick and shut-in, serving on the bereavement committee, and as the chairperson of the minister's committee. She became known as the "teacher preacher" due to her standstill style and moderate tone of delivering a sermon. She served in this role until she could no longer perform her duties due to her Alzheimer's diagnosis.
William and Sharon shared 54 years of friendship and marriage. Their union was blessed with five children; William Jr., Brandon, Stephanie, Sheila and Jared. Sharon and William raised five children very intentionally in the way of the Lord. Sharon also attended countless school programs, sports activities, and PTA meetings. She was blessed to see her children grow, marry, and have children of their own. Grandma Sharon loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and served her family from motherhood until she no longer could.
Our beloved, beautiful rose of Sharon transitioned from her earthly life and body to peaceful rest on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bennye Huntley; her mother and father-in-law, Jessie Sr. and Georgia Taylor; daughter, Stephanie Taylor (Gorham); sister, Ophelia Garmon; nephews, Terry Garmon and Sean Borom; and her grand -nephew, Terrance "Buster" Garmon.
She is survived by her caring husband, William Taylor; by her devotd children, Billy (Tracy) Taylor, Brandon (Maria) Taylor, Sheila Taylor, Jared (Kymberly) Taylor; grandchildren, Byron, Nigel, Sergio, Kesha, Maria, Oba, Omar, Liam, Hayden, Elis, Naomi, Journey, Klarc, Klayr, and Jorja Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Rachel, Riley, Isabell, Gabriella, Oba Brice, Jr., Zoie, and Monty Taylor; sisters, Diana Borom and Gwendolyn Garmon; and her brother, Aurthur Huntley, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sharon leaves behind a legacy of love, endurance, and service to others. Whether it came in the form of a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, a provider of shelter-food- and safety, a mentor, a mother, a friend, a prayer partner, a sister, a testimony, a supporter, an encourager, or a mourner during time of loss and bereavement. Sharon Denise Taylor believed in serving Jesus Christ by serving others, and her presence among all who knew her will be greatly missed.
