Susie Mae Benson Martin, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 12, 2023.
Susie was born on November 12, 1934, in Marion, Alabama to Henrietta and Nathaniel Benson. Susie was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, who took care of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Beyond her family, she spread joy, love, and wisdom to many as a community mother in the Marshalltown Terrace subdivision of Gary, Indiana, where she resided for 54 years. Susie was a blessing to her family and community and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was a faithful member and the mother of Trinity United Church of Christ in Gary, Indiana.
Susie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Martin; and son, Dean Martin.
She leaves to cherish loving memories to her children, Roberta Jennings, LeVonne Sharp, Clarence Martin, Jr., Lisa Martin, Walter Martin, Morris (Angelina) Martin, Melvin Martin, Connie (Anthony) Washington, and Tameka Martin; son through marriage, Cornelius Williams; grandchildren, Kenneth (Deanna) Sharp, LaTasha (Joseph) Robinson, Dwayne Sharp, Chandra Hester, Duron Martin, Rana Martin, Deana Martin, Christopher (Asheley) Martin, Durell (Chesney) Martin, Tasia Martin Tumari Martin, Kai Washington, Clarence Martin, and Tamia Gail; great-grandchildren, Breauna Sharp, Caleb Sharp, Ayden Sharp, Logan Williams-Sharp, Daron Griffin, Tajanee Griffin, Emoni Sharp, Tyler Sharp, Brooke Sharp, Jakyre Sharp, Alexandria Martin, Duron Martin, Jr., Kayla Martin, Khaliyah Martin, Brylin Martin, Christopher Martin, Jr., Arion Henderson, Emoni Martin, Durell Martin, Jr., Bradyn Martin, Dumari Martin, and Iya Martin; extended Benson and Martin family; best friend, Ms. Pearl Hines; surrogate children, and a host of friends.
